About Us

Our Mission

To empower family caregivers, aging care recipients, volunteers and the community in a positive, nurturing manner through quality, targeted programming.

Our History

Aloha to Aging, Inc. was founded by Dawn Reed, a Certified Senior Advisor and owner of Aloha to Senior Solutions Consulting, who has been in the healthy aging industry for 25+ years. After directing an award winning and nationally recognized day respite program for six years and leading caregiver education and support groups, Dawn knew first hand the increased value these services provided to families. With tremendous encouragement and support from the community, volunteers and families, Aloha to Aging, Inc. was founded in August 2009.

Our Objectives

  1. To provide a nurturing and socially stimulating environment for adults 50 and older who need engaging activities outside of their residence (and have primarily stopped driving).  Aloha Day Club is therapeutically structured to include fellowship with peers, music, seated exercise, stimulating and creative activities, multigenerational programming.
  2. To offer carepartner support group opportunities. The purpose of the support groups are to provide a safe environment to share emotions and experiences, give and receive emotional support, seek and give advice, and exchange practical information with others who are caring for an aging loved one. Currently we provide Alzheimer’s,/Dementia Caregiver and Parkinson’s support groups.
  3. To involve and train volunteers to become an integral and important part of the programs. Our volunteers range in age from youth and teen through senior citizens. Opportunities for volunteerism range from providing food, a musical, art, or special talent or program volunteers for Aloha Day Club. Additional opportunities through fundraising efforts, grant writing, our Board of Directors and administrative assistance are available.
  4. To offer healthy aging, wellness and educational programs for the community. Examples include: “A Day in the Life”Physical & Cognitive Hands-on Simulation Workshop, Healthy Brain Game Days, “Park n Rec” Exercise and Recreational Therapy program to delay Parkinson’s, Dementia Friends, Managing Caregiver Stress, etc.

We are the only organization in the area providing these unique services.

OUR IMPACT

Thus far, we have annually positively impacted over 3,000 individuals, even through COVID-19 pandemic, to age well and better understand and respond to the ever-changing needs associated with caring for an aging person.

  • “I have a 91-year-old mother with Alzheimer’s in an assisted living facility near our home. I also have a 78-year-old husband who has been diagnosed with Frontal, Temporal Dementia and still lives at home. I have been attending a support group which I enjoy very much. It is a chance to get away and to spend time with people who can actually carry on a conversation. I look forward to the day.”

  • If we could choose anyone in the world to provide respite care for older loved ones (including those with dementia or early Alzheimer’s), it would be Dawn Reed. We have worked as volunteers for Dawn for 6 years. She develops daily programs which stimulate and entertain participants in her programs. She combines professional knowledge and management skills with kindness and compassion. She is the best.
